Wanted: Volunteer Nature Walk Leaders at Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center

by Linda Woodard, Director, Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center

March 03, 2010

Topics: Scarborough Marsh

Maine Audubon's Scarborough Marsh Audubon Center needs adult volunteers several days during the week from May 2 -June 18 to lead nature walks for all ages.

No experience is needed, said center director Linda Woodard, just a love of nature and a desire to share it with others. "In these exciting, hands-on programs, volunteers learn how to help people of all ages explore the ecology and wildlife of Maine's largest salt marsh.”

Training in marsh ecology and group management begins April 26 with a new guide orientation and continues April 28 with a sample walk and April 30 with an enrichment on marsh animals; sessions are from 9:30 a.m. to noon. From 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. on May 13 will be a plant-identification session. Training is held at the center on Route 9.

Special arrangements can be made for those who can’t make training. In-depth internships also are available.

Trainings will be held from 9 am to noon, April 26, 28, 30, and May 13. To sign up, call (207) 415-8331, ext. 213,or email Linda Woodard.
